Barolo Door

We visited Barolo Ristorante in Crystal Tree Plaza for dinner and I have to say I’m so excited to have a new Italian go-to in the area.

The decor is really clean and modern with white linen tabletops and a climate-controlled wine room taking center stage. The owner is a big art lover so there are paintings throughout the space which I really like. The bar area is upscale and sexy. They also have a private dining area for large parties.

We sat down with Anthony, the GM, and chatted before dinner. He ordered a bottle of the Belle Glos Meiomi Pinot Noir. The wine list at Barolo is extensive and features a nice selection of by the glass options.

Anthony filled us in on the opening of the restaurant. I have to admit, my favorite part of the story was hearing about the owner’s address being listed under the restaurant name and having the gate at his community calling in to find out where the semi full of commercial grade kitchen cooktops was supposed to be headed. All in all, it sounds like they took their time to make sure they did it right – atmosphere, food, training, service, you name it. Which should be a recipe for serious success in NPB.

On to the food!!

We asked our server, Sal, what the most popular dishes were and I was secretly excited to hear that the Fettuccine Bolognese was on that list. The hubs went with the Pre Fixe menu as it included his favorite, Chicken Parmigiana. We both started with a salad – I had the Buffalo Mozzarella caprese and he had the Caesar Salad. I loved the presentation on my plate with beautiful red and yellow heirloom tomatoes and chopped basil. The caesar was light and tangy which is the way I like it.

The Bolognese was everything I wanted it to be. I typically steer clear as bolognese can be very heavy, but this sauce was actually fairly light and let the meat flavor shine. The pasta – which is made fresh in-house every day – was fluffy and the perfect texture. I don’t think I’ve ever cleared a plate of bolognese before, but this was the exception.

The Chicken Parm was large and in charge, lightly breaded and super yummy. It was served with a side of ratatouille and fingerling potatoes. As part of the pre fixe you could have a pasta course or pasta on the side. He choose with the meal and was served a side plate of Pappardelle with Pink Vodka Sauce. Again, the pasta was amazing. They also make their sauces fresh daily – which shows.

As the finale of the pre fixe, we shared the Chocolate Dipped Biscotti. It was also delicious with the perfect crunch and light almond flavor. They also had Cheesecake, Cannolis, Flourless Chocolate Cake, and Tiramisu.

The service was wonderful. Sal was friendly, helpful and attentive. Our water glasses were never empty and our wine glasses seemed bottomless. The hostess greeted us with a sparkling smile and everyone was just warm and welcoming. It was a lovely evening.

Barolo hosts a daily Happy Hour at the bar from 4-7pm and are currently serving up their Summer Pre Fixe menu offering a glass of wine, starter, pasta, entree, and dessert for $32.95. It’s a great time to check them out!
