Author of ALL OR NOTHING: One Chef’s Appetite for the Extreme

On Saturday, November 22, Big Time Restaurant Group welcomes Chef Jesse Schenker in celebrating the release of his first book, ALL OR NOTHING: One Chef’s Appetite for the Extreme. Schenker, a former cook at Big City Tavern on Las Olas Boulevard is famed for his two award winning New York City restaurants, The Gander and recette.

But before he was a rising culinary star—before the James Beard nominations and the starred reviews, before the Best New Chef titles and an Iron Chef win— Jesse Schenker worked in kitchens to fuel a ravenous habit. His obsession with drugs overtook his passion for cooking—until he hit rock bottom and realized: one would kill him and the other could save him. In his memoir, ALL OR NOTHING: One Chef’s Appetite for the Extreme, Schenker reflects on his biggest triumphs and failures, and shares—for the first time—the shocking story of his turbulent life outside his impressive resume.

Guests are invited to enjoy complimentary wine and light bites from Big City Tavern Executive Chef Louie Bossi while meeting the author and celebrated chef starting at 3:30pm. Copies of the book will be available for purchase for $25.99.

About Jesse Schenker

Jesse Schenker is executive chef and owner of The Gander and recette, which he opened with his wife, Lindsay, in New York’s Greenwich Village in 2010. Recette is a James Beard Best New Restaurant semifinalist Nominee and received two star reviews from both the New York Times and New York magazine. It was listed as one of Sam Sifton’s favorite newcomers of 2010, and was named one of the Best New Restaurants by New York Magazine and one of NYC’s 10 most exciting restaurants by Manhattan magazine. The James Beard Rising Star semifinalist was included in Zagat’s “30 Hottest Chefs Under 30” and Forbes’s “30 Under 30,” was named one of the Best New Chefs by New York magazine, and beat Chef Geoffrey Zakarian in an Iron Chef America battle. He lives in New York City with his wife and two children.
